Detach Emotions

How can I detach my emotions from the behavior of others?

This is a good journal prompt because I was thinking of an event and how I should journal about it so that I can stop thinking about it and move on…

… So, HOW can I detach my emotions from the comment. Well, I can understand how they’re an outsider of our interaction and assure myself that I know what my interaction with the other party was. I can also reassure myself that I can change my emotions and responses.

I cannot control my environment 100%, what other people do or say, BUT I can change mine and for the better (or worse).

I can process my emotions further to myself and understand why I feel a way so that the next time a similar interaction/event happens, I will be able to control my thoughts and emotions in a positive/beneficial manner.

So a good process/sequence of detaching emotions from the behavior of others would be:

  • feel (the emotion)

  • process (the situation/emotion)

  • understand (why I feel this way)

  • action (change something (perspective/thought)

  • reassess (if need be)
